UAW deal to slow, not reverse manufacturing wage slump

The new agreement between the UAW and Fiat Chrysler will bring new and older workers to parity over eight years, but it won't necessarily end a more than decade-long decline in U.S. manufacturing wages, according to labor economists and other researchers. "The strength of the dollar and competition from Mexico will continue the slowdown in manufacturing wages," said Sean McAlinden, chief economist at the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor.
