Finding, nurturing skilled workers is the key to manufacturing success in the digital economy
LinkedIn
The more Sander van 't Noordende talks to manufacturing clients lately, the more optimistic they are about their companies' prospects for growth — great news for a sector that was severely battered during the downturn. Upcoming research from Accenture, in fact, indicates that many manufacturers are planning investments in technology updates and new facilities in 2014 to keep up with expected demand. There's strong reason to believe that such optimism is warranted.

Businessman finds passion in welding
The Courier of Montgomery County
Welding started off as a hobby for Montgomery, Texas, resident Brian Wilke, a trade he picked up from his father-in-law. But in 2006, Wilke, with the help of his wife, Angee, transformed his family's automotive air conditioning business into Wilke's Bad*** Pits, building custom fire pits, smokers and grills. "I just find a passion in what I do now versus the air conditioning (business)," he said. “It was fun for a while but you know you like to do things that are going to make you happy."

The smarter manufacturing enterprise
Wired
It’s been called the fourth industrial revolution. Smart factories will change the manufacturing landscape around the world, heralding a new age of productivity, efficiency, responsiveness, and product customization. And serious manufacturing people — like CEOs and industry analysts — think the reality is not very far away. The revolution began a few decades ago, when manufacturers started creating smart manufacturing cells, for the first time merging information technology with manufacturing technology in real time, albeit on a small scale.
