Willisch charms the press at LA Auto Show
New BMW NA boss introduces i8 concept
Among the stars of the LA Auto Show were the new BMW i8 hybrid concept car, actress Paula Patton of the latest Mission: Impossible product-placement exercise — er, Tom Cruise movie — and the new head of BMW of North America, Ludwig Willisch (pictured left). The ebullient Willisch, who doubled sales of BMW M cars when he ran BMW M GmbH, is refreshingly outspoken and forthright; click here to read a brief Willisch interview by the LA Times' Jerry Hirsch — and note especially his comments on the X1 in the U.S.

MedJet Assist rates to go up in 2012
Members' 2011 price good through December
One interesting member benefit for our more peripatetic members is the Medjet Assist medical evacuation program; as an individual or corporate member, if you are hospitalized more than 150 miles from home — in the U.S. or abroad — Medjet Assist will arrange comprehensive medical transportation to the hospital of your choice. BMW CCA members currently get coverage for $250 for an individual, or $385 for a family rate, but these prices will go up at the first of the year, to $260 and $395. The increase is modest, but if you're planning to enroll for 2012, it's worth your time to do it before the year runs out. Click here to visit the BMW CCA Membership Benefits page!More

He talked with The Times about the importance of being No. 1 and BMW's place in the U.S.More

Why BMW?

Is it because of its design, tradition, quality, reliability or the brand's philosophy that attracts you? It can be anything and everything from the interior smell to the driver's position to the colors offered and even the cup holders! There is no right or wrong answer. Simply put: Why?More

Editorial: Are you going to miss the 'Big 6' engines?
BMW Blog
Will you miss the big, naturally aspirated inline-six cylinder engines of BMW as we see the resurgence of the Turbo Era in road cars? It's a moot point because it looks like the forthcoming product line from BMW in the North American market will have no options for buyers to pick up a naturally aspirated inline six cylinder engine. It appears that literally every engine in BMW of North America's line-up could be be powered via a forced induction engine and that's a sad possible future to think about.More
