Could GTA flooding be used as home sale escape hatch?

The recent flooding in the GTA raised important legal questions about homes that were supposed to close at the time. I was recently asked whether a buyer could refuse to close a deal when they suspected the home had been damaged by flooding before closing. CMHC cools mortgage market with new cap for banks
CBC News
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. is putting a cap on the amount of mortgage-backed securities sold by banks that it is willing to guarantee. A spokesperson with CMHC confirmed media reports that the national housing agency will, effective immediately, limit banks and other mortgage lenders to $350 million worth of new mortgage-backed securities per month.

Toronto real estate sales soar in July

House sales across the GTA reached their highest levels in July for that summer month since 2009, with a 16 per cent surge in sales. It was the third best July for sales on record, says the Toronto Real Estate Board.

New amendment to the 'Electronic Commerce Act' allows for electronic signatures in real estate transactions

Bill 96, a private member's bill introduced to the Ontario Legislative Assembly to amend and modernize the Electronic Commerce Act, 2000 died when Dalton McGuinty stepped down as Liberal leader and prorogued the Ontario legislature on October 15, 2012. Conservative MPP Todd Smith re-introduced the contents of the bill to the Ontario legislature on March 6, 2013, through Bill 28, an act to amend the Electronic Commerce Act, 2000.

On May 21st, Zoocasa informed CREA that they would be launching a new website which will offer Real Estate services. As per the terms of the DDF third party agreement, which prohibits third parties from being involved in providing Real Estate services, Zoocasa is no longer eligible to participate in CREA's DDF as a third party. As a result, CREA's third party agreement with Zoocasa has been terminated, and Zoocasa has been removed from the DDF console as a third party destination.

More residents seek legal action
Caledon Enterprise
Another group of residents is looking to take legal action after a Minister's Zoning Order was given to allow construction for a 180-acre Canadian Tire distribution warehouse in Bolton. MPP for Brampton Springdale Linda Jeffrey granted a Minister's Zoning Order for the development as requested by Caledon's council after they approved the application earlier.
