Canadian home sales edge higher in July

According to statistics released recently by The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), national home sales activity edged up almost one per cent in July 2014 from the previous month.

Highlights: • National home sales rose 0.8 per cent from June to July.
• Actual (not seasonally adjusted) activity was 7.2 per cent higher than July 2013 levels.
• The number of newly listed homes edged up 0.4 per cent from June to July.
• The Canadian housing market remains in balanced territory.
• The MLS® Home Price Index (HPI) rose 5.3 per cent year-over-year in July.
• The national average sale price rose 5.0 per cent on a year-over-year basis in July.

The number of home sales processed through the MLS® Systems of Canadian real estate Boards and Associations rose 0.8 per cent on a month-over-month basis in July 2014, marking the sixth consecutive monthly increase and the highest level for sales since March 2010.

City issues close to $1 billion in construction permits
Brampton Guardian
The City of Brampton added 1,200 new jobs and issued close to $1 billion in construction value building permits in the first half of 2014, planning staff reports. Residential construction made up most of the permits issued from January to June at more than $833 million, followed by $33.6 million in commercial and $44 million institutional.

Home prices in red-hot Toronto race higher and higher

The real estate board for the country's largest, and arguably hottest, housing market said prices are up nearly 10 per cent again through the first two weeks of August compared to the same two-week stretch last year. That sizable gain is well above where many experts saw home prices trending a year ago.
