Residential property price growth slowing

Residential real estate prices saw moderating price growth for an eleventh month in a row, according to the latest figures from property data provider Clear Capital. Nationally, yearly gains decreased from a high of 11.7 per cent in October 2013 to just 7.8 per cent through September 2014.

Bill 55: New regulations around offers released for comment

Last year, the Ontario government passed Bill 55, the Stronger Protection for Ontario Consumers Act, 2013. The legislation included provisions intended to address so-called "phantom offers." Proposed regulations to support the amendments to REBBA 2002 have been released for comment.

Canadian home sales ease back in September

According to statistics released by The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), national home sales activity in September 2014 was down from the previous month. The number of home sales processed through the MLS® Systems of Canadian real estate Boards and Associations fell by 1.4 per cent on a month-over-month basis in September 2014, marking the first monthly decline since January of this year.

Century 21 survey asks what buyers want

A new survey by Century 21 Canada says buyers are more interested in a home with energy efficiency upgrades than one with updated finishings such as granite countertops or hardwood floors. "It's well-known that home buying is an emotional process, so understanding the shifts in where buyers place value is key to a sellers' success," says Todd Shyiak, national director of operations for Century 21 Canada.
