Ontario housing activity is expected to maintain its momentum in 2016 before easing in 2017, according to the Fourth Quarter 2015 CMHC Housing Market Outlook released today. Ontario housing starts are expected to range between 61,000 and 70,500 units in 2016 with a point forecast of 65,100.

Economist: Spike in unsold Toronto condos not a sign of 'increased vulnerability'

The number of new, unsold condos in Toronto swelled from less than 1,000 in December, 2014, to nearly 3,000 in May, 2015, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation and CIBC say. According to a recent CIBC research note, the number of unabsorbed condos in the city in May was the highest it's been since the 1990s. The number dropped significantly the following month, when it fell by more than 800 units.
