Important reminder about proxies

In preparation for the General Election Meeting on Dec. 16, 2014, BREB would like to remind you that as per Article 3, Section 2.4 of the By-Law "All proxies must be delivered to the Board no later than 48 hours prior (excluding weekends and statutory holidays) to a Meeting of the Membership." If you are unable to make it to the meeting and would like to carry a vote by completing a proxy, the deadline to submit your proxy form to the Board Office is Friday Dec. 12, 2014 by 10:00 a.m.

Phase out of options in Old Stratus: Jan. 7

Canada November housing starts post fastest rise in 7 months

Canadian housing starts rose the fastest in seven months in November on gains in multiple-unit work, government figures showed. The pace of work on new homes rose 6.5 per cent to 195,620 units at a seasonally adjusted annual pace in November, said Ottawa-based Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp.

Commission warns about mortgage broker ads

FSCO has recently received a number of complaints about illegal mortgage brokering ads and, in response, it has issued an official warning. "Under Ontario's Mortgage Brokerages, Lenders and Administrators Act, 2006, all mortgage brokerages, brokers and agents must prominently disclose the name in which they are licensed and their licence number in all public relations materials, including ads," an official release from FSCO states.

More clarity needed for syndicated mortgage websites

Following a FSCO warning about an unlicensed syndicated mortgage referral website, one industry leader suggests there needs to be more clarity when it comes to these arrangements. In an official statement, the commission warned consumers that InTeg Financial is not licensed to broker mortgage business in Ontario.
