Rules for real estate fees have changed

Recent changes to REBBA 2002 provide additional flexibility in how brokerages charge for real estate services. Bill 55, the Stronger Protection for Ontario Consumers Act, 2013, has amended REBBA 2002.

CREA boosts forecast as year-over-year home resales, prices jump
The Globe and Mail
The number of existing homes that changed hands in Canada in November came in 5.9-per-cent higher than a year earlier, the Canadian Real Estate Association said Monday. While sales were slumping at this time last year, last month's sales level was 0.7-per-cent higher than the 10-year average on a seasonally adjusted basis, CREA said.

Re/Max forecasts 'exceptionally healthy' real estate market in 2014

Canada can expect an "exceptionally healthy" housing market in 2014 thanks to improvements in the overall economy that helped produce a surge in the latter half of this year, a leading real estate group said. Re/Max says that nationally, home sales are expected to climb two per cent to 475,000 units next year after a three per cent increase to well over 453,000 projected for 2013 when all the numbers are in.

Brampton's monster-home madness

The partly constructed house at 443 Centre Street North in Brampton looks like it was dropped from the sky — it's the big blue whale in a sea of modest bungalows, semis and detached homes. For now, it's a shell of a dwelling made of teal-tinted wood, but plans call for eight bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and (including the basement) more than 11,000 square feet of living space.
