Governor JB Pritzker signed HB3671 (Thapedi) into law this week, a bill that CAA supported and that CAA members lobbied for during our annual Lobby Day. The Assistance and Service Animal Integrity Act will allow an owner, who receives a request from a person to make an exception to a policy prohibiting animals on the property, to require the person to produce reliable documentation of the disability and disability-related need for the animal (only if the disability or disability-related need is not readily apparent or known to the landlord). CAA applauds Governor Pritzker's decision to sign the bill, which should provide greater clarity regarding "emotional support animals" for owners and managers.

Tenants living in one Humboldt Park apartment building have launched a fight to stop the owner from leaving the federal government's Section 8 housing program.
Earlier this year, the owner of the building at 2815 W. Division told tenants that he planned to end the contract with the Housing Choice Voucher Program, also known as Section 8.
Several people, many of them elderly, said that they would be forced to move without help from the federal government.
The third and final high-rise of the multiphase plan to redevelop the Atrium Village housing complex into Old Town Park is now officially under construction on Chicago's Near North Side.
