What is an Aunt Minnie?

The term Aunt Minnie is radiological short hand for a lesion/finding which has characteristic appearances and cannot, within reason, be anything but one thing. The term was coined by Ed Neuhauser, Chief of Radiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, and popularised by Ben Felson in his 1960 classic textbook Chest Roentgenology 1-2. Neither man apparently had an aunt called Minnie 3.
