Radiology Fact of the Month: Starting in 2018: Education — Not A Credential — Will Earn CE

It's the learning you gain from continuing education (CE) activities— and not the new credentials you might subsequently earn — that's important to ARRT. And that's why we're changing the CE requirements related to earning additional credentials.

ARRT instituted CE requirements to ensure that R.T.s regularly update their professional knowledge and skills. Beginning Jan. 1, 2018, a newly earned credential won't fulfill your CE requirements. What will count, however, are the approved educational activities you complete to qualify for the new credential.

For example, if you earn a post primary credential in sonography, the credential itself won't count as CE. But any approved academic courses or CE you completed will help fulfill your CE requirements.

Using new credentials to earn CE credit is relatively rare. In recent years, only about 2.5 percent of R.T.s earned new credentials to fulfill CE requirements.
