Skin pressure measurements under a bi-valved cast stabilized using a new device: A cadaver model study
ASOP
Dr. Loren Latta, Ph.D, Director of Research at the Max Biedermann Institute for Biomechanics at the University of Miami Medical School conducted a study of swelling pressures under a cast and possible solutions using elastic wraps and the new BOA powered CastFit System from Clickmedical.co. The study measured pressures under the cast during swelling and then measure pressures after using common orthopedic pressure relief procedures such as bi-valving and then using the new CastFit System for patient controlled pressure relief.

Healing in delayed unions and nonunions
Many problems with the management and healing of bone fractures were seen in the past, but new advances in fracture management have worked to make it easier to heal fractures faster and without lingering problems. Proper setting of bones and better casting techniques are among the ways that bone fracture management has improved. Additionally, stricter controls, better protocols, proper hardware, and advanced surgical techniques have also been used in order to ensure the best quality and the shortest period of time when it comes to patient healing, along with a reduced chance of future problems with that area.

MU researcher: Jolting exercises now may prevent broken hip later

The jolting movement of jogging or hiking down a trail or slamming a tennis ball for an ace just might prevent a broken hip later in life. That's the finding of a University of Missouri researcher who recently published a paper that concludes high-impact activity and heavy resistance training can make bones denser and less likely to result in disabling hip fractures.

UK: White children more likely to snap bones than black or Asian youngsters

The risk of a child fracturing a bone can depend upon their ethnicity and where they live in the UK, experts found. Each year 150 out of every 10,000 white children break their bones compared with 81 fractures per 10,000 South Asian children and 64 out of 10,000 black youngsters, researchers said.

New research into 3D printed bone implants could change the way we heal broken bones

For years, bone grafts have been a common method of helping patients with broken or damaged bones to properly heal. Because bone tissue can quickly heal itself, an implant, or scaffold, is used to surgically hold all of the damaged bone fragments together and act as a bridge of sorts that will ensure that they heal correctly. Recently doctors have started 3D printing these implants in order to ensure that the scaffold is sized and fit exactly to the patient’s specific needs.
