Equipment dealers focusing on services, offsetting slowdown in machinery sales

Farm machinery dealers are hoping to offset recent declines in equipment sales by expanding the services they provide to producers. After six consecutive years of strong growth, year-over-year sales of new equipment declined by as much as 25 percent for dealers in parts of Western Canada in 2014, according to John Schmeiser, CEO of the newly-formed Western Equipment Dealers Association.

Quebec Caterpillar dealer to shed ag equipment arm

Caterpillar’s dealer for Quebec and the Maritime provinces is set to sell its Quebec farm equipment business to a chain of Agco dealerships. Hewitt Equipment — the authorized Cat dealer for Quebec and western Labrador and, through its Atlantic Tractors and Equipment arm, for the Maritimes — announced recently it will sell its ag division to Groupe Symac for an undisclosed sum.

John Deere forestry family welcomes M-series Tracked Feller Bunchers and Tracked Harvesters

According to a recent press release, John Deere has introduced its new M-Series Tracked Feller Bunchers and Tracked Harvesters, which include mid and large-sized models designed to increase uptime and overall productivity. The 800M and 800MH Series Reduced Tail Swing aim to set a new standard in midsize machines, while the 900M and 900MH-Series look to improve upon Deere’s large-sized forestry machines.

Challenger announces five new row crop tractor models – the new Challenger MT500E Series row crop tractors with new Agco Power Tier 4 Final 6.6- and 7.4-liter six-cylinder diesel engines. Maximum engine hp ranges from 185 to 255 across the lineup, which includes the MT555E, MT565E, MT575E, MT585E and MT595E. Honey Bee reintroduces the tractor-mounted swather concept

One of the most noticeable machines on display at Canada’s Farm Progress Show last June was Honey Bee’s tractor-mounted swather prototype. Now with the widespread availability of both front and rear three-point hitches on nearly every major brand of tractor, the company sees an opportunity to take advantage of that feature by reintroducing the mounted swather header concept it originally began producing in 1984.

Massive heaters help outdoor workers fight below-zero temps

When you work outside, sometimes you gotta do it in the cold. And when it comes to construction, sometimes, in some places, you gotta do it when it’s really, really cold. Temperatures in Minneapolis have dipped down into single digits with windchills reaching below zero in the last couple of weeks, but that hasn’t stopped work on the city’s new stadium for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, as the Star-Tribune reports.

New Holland upgraded T8 tractor range

New Holland will debut its upgraded T8 tractor range at LAMMA in January. The T8 Tractor Series upgraded with ECOBlue Hi-eSCR technology for compliance with Tier 4B emissions standards will make its UK debut showing at LAMMA 2015. The entire tractor range is more powerful than its predecessor and has maintained its excellent fuel efficiency. The tractor upgrade also introduces a host of improvements to the operator’s comfort and convenience, with enhancements for machine setting and maintenance.
