Honda adds comfort to its big 420cc and 500cc ATVs

It doesn't seem very long since Honda last updated its 420cc and 500cc heavy-duty ATVs. One reason for the change, we're told, is that after many years of leaving ATVs to the recreation sector, U.S. farmers are now buying them in large numbers. That, in turn, has prompted the company to make these popular machines more comfortable to use and easier to look after.

Poly cup flighting gives tender seeds more TLC

The ability to auger seed at the same rate as a rubber belt conveyor but with 4.4 per cent less seed damage might catch farmers' attention. Researchers at Ohio State University recently moved soybean seed through a six-inch auger with poly cupped flighting, and ended up with a germination rate of 86 per cent.

Ag robotics forecast to become $16 billion industry

The agricultural robot market, estimated at a paltry $817 million right now, could be a $16 billion industry within six years, according to a report by Reportsnreports.com, an analytical service. "Agricultural robots are but part of an overall trend to more automated process for every type of human endeavor," according to a release from the company. "Robots are being used more widely than expected in a variety of sectors, and the trend is likely to continue with robotics becoming as ubiquitous as computer technology over the next 15 years.

Raven, Kinze collaborate on multi-hybrid planter system

Raven Industries announced a collaboration with Kinze Manufacturing, Inc. to bring a new multi-hybrid planter control system to Kinze's world-leading product offering. In the summer of 2013, Raven introduced the first commercially available multi-hybrid planter solution that allows growers to switch between two hybrids on the fly. As part of the collaboration, Raven will be the technology provider for Kinze's new 4900 series multi-hybrid concept planters being tested with select North American producers in the spring of 2014. This planter will be the first to offer producers this capability as a factory-installed option.

Kubota eyes U.S. fields with larger tractors

Kubota plans to sell powerful, large tractors in North America and Europe next year, its president said, challenging farm equipment industry leader Deere and Co. Yasuo Masumoto, president of Japan's biggest farm equipment maker, told Reuters Kubota was seeking a joint venture with a European or U.S. company this year to produce the tractors, which will have a horsepower of at least 200.

New McCormick X7 tractor to debut at Yorkshire machinery show

The new tractor range comprises a trio of four-cylinder models from 131hp at rated speed and a maximum output of 143hp, and the same number of six-cylinder versions peaking at 175hp rated, 188hp max and 212hp with pto boost. Power and torque are delivered through the 24x24 speed Pro Drive transmission with four-step powershift, with the standard 40kph version running at significantly reduced engine speed to help fuel economy. Creep speeds can be added and there is a 50kph option, together with cab suspension and the popular McCormick front axle with independent wishbone suspension.

AGCO reports net sales grew 5.8 per cent in Q4

AGCO has reported net sales of approximately $2.9 billion during the fourth quarter of 2013, an increase of approximately 5.8 per cent compared to net sales of $2.7 billion for the fourth quarter of 2012. Reported net income for the fourth quarter of 2013 was $1.40 per share. These results compare to reported and adjusted net income of $1.04 and $0.99 per share, respectively, for the fourth quarter of 2012.

AGI to take up GrainVac product line

Grain handling equipment firm Ag Growth International has brought another Prairie manufacturer into its bin with a deal to buy the GrainVac product line. Winnipeg-based AGI closed its deal to buy the GrainVac line from Swift Current, SK manufacturer Rem Enterprises, which has made and marketed GrainVacs for about 40 years. The manufacturing of GrainVac equipment will relocate, but not far: AGI plans to set up the GrainVac business at its own Batco Manufacturing plant at Swift Current.
