Caterpillar unveils 336F H hybrid excavator and compact wheel loader

If there's one word that Caterpillar wants you to take away from this year's ConExpo it's "technology." And the equipment manufacturer had plenty of it to show off in a pre-ConExpo press event that included the unveiling of an update to its hydraulic hybrid excavator. The 336F H contains the same three-part hydraulic hybrid componentry as the E Series hybrid, but with a software update. Brian Stellbrink, product application specialist, says F Series prototypes are realizing even more fuel savings than the 25 per cent seen in the E Series, but declined to give specifics.

In 1983, Bob Funke purchased the Motorcycle, ATV and Snowmobile Division form C.L.Benninger Ltd with whom he had worked for since 1976. Renting space from them until 1993 Bob and his wife, Judy purchased their current location 615 St Clair St in Chatham. A true, family run business, Bob and Judy's son, Darrell and daughter and son-in-law, Sha-Lynn and Mario all work at the dealership. The only non-family member is Brian and having been with them for 21 years, can likely be considered like-family anyway!

Maple Farm Equipment gets a new partner

Maple Farm Equipment is now part of the Jim Pattison group. Canada's third largest privately-held company, it has divisions in a wide range of different industries through western Canada, but this will be the first time it has gone into agriculture. Jim Pattison, company founder, says that the move is neither a merger nor a takeover, but a partnership between his company and Maple Farm Equipment.

Opico combi drill aims for accuracy and speed

The latest grain and fert drill option on the market comes from Opico, which has mounted a 3m Alitalia pneumatic drill on a heavy-duty Orso power harrow and added a front-mounted fertilizer distribution system. The firm's Perfecta double-disc coulters are designed to place seed and fertilizer together accurately, says the company.

Fendt's new 900 series models of Tier 4-compliant tractors are not only more environmentally friendly, they're also more efficient in the field. With the integration of Fendt's selective catalytic reduction technology, the new models provide up to 7 per cent better fuel economy than their predecessors. They are available in a 200 to 300 PTO horsepower power range, with all kinds of new features. Driving comfortably down the highway at speeds above 12.5 miles per hour, as Fendt Stability Control automatically locks the differential and dampens side-to-side movement, increasing driving stability and braking performance. In speeds of any less, the system disengages.

Potato bruising thwarted by new P.E.I. machine

A potato grower and two of his employees from Orwell Cove, P.E.I. are banking on a new piece of equipment they've designed to stop the food from bruising. Randy Visser said he hopes the EZ Down will be a hit at the potato expo in Charlottetown. It will be the first time the $15,000 machine will be seen in public.

Riesterer & Schnell to sell drones for ag
Precision Farming Dealer
Riesterer & Schnell announced recently that it has entered into an agreement with Precision Drone. Officials of the multi-site John Deere dealer said they are very excited to be partnering with Precision Drone. Together, they will be offering the helicopter-style drones (hexacopters) to agriculture customers through their Wisconsin retail locations. These hexacopters are small, unmanned craft that can fly up to 400 feet high while taking aerial images of crops and fields. The data collected by agricultural drones is a part of the total precision agriculture approach that can assist with observing, measuring and responding to crop variability.
