Thought for the Week

"It's a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together." Unknown

Attention CEEDA Members!
Ontario’s Anti-Spam Regulation comes into effect July 1, 2014.

In an effort to reduce electronic spam arriving in consumers’ inboxes, Canadian policy makers have established Bill C-28, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). While at first glance, this seems like a positive move for consumers, it is important to recognize the impact CASL will have on local Canadian businesses. In addition, these Canadian businesses will face extreme fines, upwards of $1 million, if their electronic marketing initiatives do not comply.

You must have current written permissions from every individual with whom you communicate electronically, on file. Different compliances exist for existing business relationships than for new business relationships moving forward. Please contact the CEEDA office for more detail.

Bill C-28 sets a very strict threshold for what messages can be sent and the penalties for non-compliance are extreme. Corporations could be fined as much as $10 million if they violate the law.

To access the Canada Anti-Spam Checklist please CLICK HERE

To avoiding having your hands tied by CASL and ensure you’re able to compete by utilizing email messaging, we’ve prepared a readiness checklist for you. Please see article and for more information, call Bev at the CEEDA office at 705-726-2100.

Tire busting tool saves fingers, prevents injury
The Western Producer
Mounting and dismounting tires is an arduous and dangerous task. However, better tools can make a difference, says Justin Ochoa, co-owner of Pneu-Tek Tire Tools. "Bad tools definitely increase the risk," he said. "Well-designed tools make a difference when it comes to safety." Ochoa and his father started designing tire tools 30 years ago. They have more than a dozen patents on tools routinely used in tire shops.

Manage mud with the Roto Mud Scraper
Real Agriculture
For anyone who has ever had to seed in wet or very wet conditions, mud is a four letter word. For those in heavy, sticky clays, mud is also synonymous with a poor planting job, often gumming up the equipment and messing up the seed bed. While there's no point in pushing hard when it's very wet, sometimes even just a wee bit of mud on the packer wheels can really mess up the depth consistency on a seeding job. Enter the Roto Mud Scraper — a made-in-Manitoba invention — that won innovation awards last year and caught many farmers' attentions on the trade show circuit this year.

Changing machinery filters to save on fuel
Farm Industry News
Machinery represents a major portion of capital costs, second only to land in farming operations. A well-kept fleet of machinery lets you respond to changing field conditions and other seasonal needs. Surveys of tractor owners indicate most follow routine maintenance schedules to protect their equipment. Machinery test data supports filter replacement and other general maintenance. When performed at intervals no greater than those listed in operation manuals, the fuel savings are measurable.

Cow collars bring PC tech to dairy farming
Geeks Are Sexy
Venture capitalists have invested around $4.8 million in a business that uses a wireless-connected collar to tell when cows are in heat. Keeping track on when individual cows are in oestrus (heat) can be a complex affair with large herds. Mistakenly think a cow is in heat and you not only waste efforts and sperm for artificial insemination, but needlessly miss out on milk production.

Wisconsin: Manure management goes mobile
Agri-View
It’s that time of year. Winter is coming to a close and farmers are starting to think of that sweet smell of manure. Okay, maybe the smell is not sweet, but getting it out of the pit and onto the field after a long wait sure is a good feeling. Hauling manure becomes even sweeter when runoff and spills are managed and planned for ahead of time.
