Another European (farm equipment) invasion

In 2014, all eyes seemed to be on high-speed planting, with John Deere launching its new entry early in the year, joining the ranks of European manufacturers Amazone, Horsch and Vaderstad. Horsch was the latest to join the ranks with a high-speed corn planter in 2013 while Amazone and Vaderstad have been mainstays for several years across Europe.

Industry adjusting to lower farm equipment sales

Sales of farm tractors and combines are continuing their downward trend this year and the industry is adjusting after several good years in a row, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). "The last five years have been pretty darn good years and we were at pretty high levels of equipment sales," said AEM Senior Vice President and Ag Sector Lead Charlie O'Brien.

Krone launches new balers, mowers and tedders

Krone recently held a dealers meeting at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, TN, where the North American operation of the worldwide hay and forage equipment manufacturer is headquartered. Bernard Krone, CEO of German-based Bernard Krone Group, says the first time he heard the American expression "Put your money where your mouth is" he thought it was very unhygienic.

A Wisconsin inventor hopes farmers will be interested in spending $4,000 to equip their spray booms with a new device he says can increase target coverage by 92 per cent. Kurt Kamin has merged his experience as a sprayer operator with his pilot experience to develop a brush that hangs in front of each nozzle to disrupt the wind shear that destroys the spray pattern.

Kinze multi-hybrid planters at work

Since 2012, Beck's Hybrids has been experimenting with multi-hybrid planting. Central Illinois Practical Farm Research director Jason Webster has done much of the hands-on work with this project. This year, the technology is commercially available. Through a partnership with Kinze Manufacturing, six Beck's customers will plant with multi-hybrid planters this spring.
