Thought for the Week

"Management is about arranging and telling. Leadership is about nurturing and enhancing." Tom Peters

Attention CEEDA Members!
Ontario’s Anti-Spam Regulation comes into effect July 1, 2014.

In an effort to reduce electronic spam arriving in consumers’ inboxes, Canadian policy makers have established Bill C-28, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). While at first glance, this seems like a positive move for consumers, it is important to recognize the impact CASL will have on local Canadian businesses. In addition, these Canadian businesses will face extreme fines, upwards of $1 million, if their electronic marketing initiatives do not comply.

You must have current written permissions from every individual with whom you communicate electronically, on file. Different compliances exist for existing business relationships than for new business relationships moving forward. Please contact the CEEDA office for more detail.

Bill C-28 sets a very strict threshold for what messages can be sent and the penalties for non-compliance are extreme. Corporations could be fined as much as $10 million if they violate the law.

To access the Canada Anti-Spam Checklist please CLICK HERE

To avoiding having your hands tied by CASL and ensure you’re able to compete by utilizing email messaging, we’ve prepared a readiness checklist for you. Please see article and for more information, call Bev at the CEEDA office at 705-726-2100.
