How high-tech farming will reshape agriculture

Boston Consulting Group has released its analysis of all agricultural patents registered worldwide between 2010-2014. In addition, the group conducted interviews with farmers and industry experts in order to examine how smart farming systems (GPS-guided drones and other equipment, smart algorithms, genetic engineering, etc.) will reshape agriculture over the next 15-20 years.

Nova Scotia agriculture minister urges feds to keep pricing policies

Provincial Agriculture Minister Keith Colwell has added his voice to the chorus calling on the federal government to preserve Canada's time-honoured supply management system. This comes as Canada continues to engage in talks to sign on to the historic Trans-Pacific Partnership, a proposed trade treaty that would open up Canada's markets to millions of overseas customers.

Ipsos Reid poll says public sees benefit of public register of skilled trades professionals

Ontarians are virtually unanimous in their support of the Ontario College of Trades use of a Public Register of its members so that public can easily verify a skilled tradesperson's qualifications. According to a new Ipsos Reid poll conducted for the Ontario College of Trades (the College), just over nine in ten (92 per cent) respondents agreed that the College's Public Register is an important tool that protects consumers.

Regulators clear path for Westeel takeover
Grainews
Federal competition watchdogs have cleared the path for grain handling equipment maker Ag Growth International to close its deal for bin manufacturer Westeel. AGI announced it had completed its deal to buy its fellow Winnipeg-based manufacturing firm for $221.5 million on recently — after announcing the Competition Bureau of Canada would allow the deal on which the Westeel sale hinged.

John Deere sees slight uptick in construction sales but profits fall 30 per cent as ag slowdown continues
