• The purpose of Canada East Equipment Dealers' Association is to promote and enhance the general welfare of retail equipment dealers primarily in the Province of Ontario and Maritime Provinces.

• Our mission is to promote and enhance the general welfare of our dealer members by providing a timely source of industry information, representing dealer interests in government regulation and legislation, enhancing dealer and employee education, supporting equitable dealer/manufacturer relations and offering specific business-related services which enhance the success and profitability of dealer members.


Deere profit jumps; concerns over farm-belt spending

Deere and Co. reported higher-than-expected quarterly profit on strong sales of its tractors and harvesters in the Americas. But concerns that farm-belt spending and commodity prices were poised to weaken sent shares lower. Earlier this year, Deere, the world's largest maker of agricultural equipment, lowered its outlook for fiscal 2013 revenue, saying a cooler-than-normal spring in North America had depressed sales.

Gleaner introduces first Class 8 transverse rotary combine

Gleaner, the transverse rotary combine brand from AGCO, introduced the Gleaner S8 Super Series combines to a packed hall of dealers and customers in Wichita's Hartman Arena. More than 1,500 people were on hand as Gleaner unveiled a full line of Tier 4 Final, Class 6 through Class 8 platforms and the industry's first Class 8 transverse rotary combine to dealers and customers during a launch program broadcast live on RFD-TV.

Fendt updates front-end loaders

Fendt has revealed updates to its range of Cargo Profi front-end loaders designed for use on the firm's small-but-powerful 500 (125-165hp) and 700 (145-250hp) series tractors. The new models get an integrated weighing system to measure bucket loads individually and can also be set to record a running total. Each load is added to the total once the bucket has been crowded to its back-most position.

Advantages of large backhoes over smaller diggers are narrowing

There's a reason 14-foot backhoes comprise the bulk of backhoe sales. That size is well-suited to most of the tasks that backhoes perform. And as OEMs find ways to further improve the performance of 14-foot machines, the advantages of bigger diggers become less obvious. Andy Capps, Volvo backhoe product manager for North America, says advances in hydraulics and electronics have been great equalizers.

Cover crop 'interseeder' can save time, trips across field

At least two of the major challenges farmers face when they consider cover crops could be resolved, thanks to a new planter designed by faculty at Penn State University. The Penn State Cover Crop Interseeder and Applicator plants cover crops while at the same time applying fertilizer or herbicide. This allows farmers the chance to seed cover crops into corn long before the corn is harvested.

Profit up for Calgary-based Rocky Mountain Dealerships

Calgary-based Rocky Mountain Dealerships experienced a revenue increase of 5.5 per cent to $238.1 million in its second quarter which ended June 30. Gross profit also increased by 5.0 per cent to $35.9 million (15.1 per cent of sales), said the company in releasing its latest financial results.

Polaris expands Brutus commercial line

Just when you thought Polaris couldn't possibly release more side-by-side vehicles comes news that the Minnesota-based powersports powerhouse has expanded its purpose-built commercial vehicle line, Polaris Brutus, to include the Brutus base model with cab, heat and air conditioning. In March 2013, Polaris introduced the three-model Brutus lineup as the first side-by-side utility vehicle in the market to deliver front-end power take-off (PTO) capability.

Kinze opens production plant abroad

Kinze Manufacturing is opening its first production plant abroad in Lithuania. Thefacility will manufacture Kinze row crop planters, contributing to its growing market in neighboring countries including Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Hungary. Kinze will hire welders, mechanics, CNC operators and other specialists to work in the new plant. Assembly in this new facility is scheduled to begin this fall.
