Vermeer debuts first product in new forestry tractor line
Equipment World
Vermeer’s 111-horsepower FT100 forestry tractor is the first in a new line of forestry equipment for the company, which will include the 290-horsepower FT300, to be introduced later this fall. “This line is a natural progression for us,” says Jeff Bradley, product manager for Vermeer’s recycling and forestry segment. “It makes a lot of sense for our existing directional drill, trencher and brush chipper customer base.” For instance, it could be used by pipeline contractors who need to clear vegetation before installing underground utilities.

McCormick proudly unveiled the result of that R&D effort, the new X7 Series tractors, last November in Hannover Germany at Agritechnica.

Narrow track machine ready for big jobs
The Western Producer
Farmers have traditionally turned to articulated tractors when they needed to put power to the ground and into implements. However, a new fixed frame tractor with a 500 horsepower engine is taking aim at that territory, as well as creating a powerful option for row-crop producers. Agco’s Fendt line is better known in Europe than in North America. The tractors have long had suspended front axles and highly flexible platforms with power take-off at both ends.

Efficiency on wheels
AgAnnex
Nuhn Industries’ Lagoon Crawler is known by many names – the Batmobile, the F1 racecar, Hot Wheels. But to the custom manure applicators who are actually getting this bright red agitation boat manure-splattered, it has one important label – efficient. L&M Industries handles about 350 million gallons of dairy manure annually, mostly in Wisconsin. Of that volume, about 40 per cent is sand-laden. And if there’s one thing the Lagoon Crawler appears to excel at, it’s mixing liquid manure and sand into suspension.

Called the Sigma, it has a patented triple walking floor and a hydraulic block for farmers with handlers with low hydraulic flow. Two hydraulic motors drive a cam that activates the triple floor. Once the bale has been loaded, the user can choose the “turbine” setting, which brings the turbine to its rated speed in about five seconds at which point the walking floor is activated.
