The sign at Seed Hawk’s air drill manufacturing facility in rural Saskatchewan says “Welcome.” Maybe, though, it should now be “Välkommen,” seeing that Väderstad, a global tillage and seeding equipment brand founded and still headquartered in Sweden acquired a minority interest in Seed Hawk in 2007, and earlier this year took over its former Canadian partner.

Mahindra to reduce supplier base as part of new sourcing strategy

Mahindra and Mahindra plans to reduce its supplier base by 10 per cent each year over the next five years, bringing down the total number of suppliers from the current 650 to 450, Hemant Sikka, the company’s chief purchasing officer (automotive and farm equipment sectors), said in an interview last week. Meanwhile, following the integration of the two-wheeler and truck business into the parent company in the last one-and-half years, M&M has centralized purchasing of parts across two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and tractors.

Kinze sees corn yield bump with new multi-hybrid planter

The last time we heard from Kinze’s Luc Van Herle on Real Ag, the company was rolling out its new electronic metering system for its 4,900 series multi-hybrid planting units.

Caterpillar unveils 903C compact wheel loader

Caterpillar has taken the wraps off its newest machine. The 903C compact wheel loader boasts an operating weight of 9,150 pounds and is designed for work in the construction, industrial, agricultural, landscaping and snow-removal markets. The machine is powered by the 42-horsepower, Tier 4 Interim Cat C2.4 engine and is paired with a hydrostatic transmission. The combo allows for travel speed up to 10 miles peer hour. Cat offers axles with differential locks are available for better traction in sloppy conditions.

New auger option on Joskin grain trailer
Agriland
The Joskin Drakkar multi-purpose trailers can now be fitted with an unloading auger to unload grains into a road transport trailer at the edge of fields, to fill a seeder or to unload industrial fertilizers, to mention just a few examples. Joskin says the equipment allows an increase productivity and profitability in the fields because it takes less time to unload material.

Kubota reaffirms position in market with launch of larger tractors

In what is initially perceived as a natural progression for the company, giving customers and more product choice, the new series actually has a far greater impact particularly for dealers and rival manufacturers. While its previous smaller tractors were often considered complimentary products by dealers to their "larger" brand tractors, these new more powerful machines have already upset the apple cart as now they are direct competition for the bigger boys, leaving some dealers to make a choice.

Vaderstad reveals new cultivator

Swedish manufacturer Vaderstad has added several models to its product list ready for the 2015 season, including a brand new, easier-to-pull cultivator. The Opus is basically a simplified version of the popular Topdown, but without the added weight of the front discs. This trims horsepower demand below 50hp/m mark and should also mean its better able to deal with heaps of trash.
