Sunstone Hotel Turns Over Second Property to Lenders from the Associated Press via Forbes Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. plans to turn over its Marriott Ontario Airport hotel in Southern California to its lenders, the second of its properties to be handed back to the bank after the company decided against making further mortgage payments. Large Legal Conference Split by Prop 8 Hotel Boycott from San Diego 6-TV An ongoing dispute regarding a San Diego hotelier's support of the anti-gay marriage Proposition 8 has caused a split amongst attendees of the annual California Bar Association Annual Meeting. The Conference of Delegates has moved to a new venue apart from the annual State Bar meeting being held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, which is under regular protest due to part-owner Douglas Manchester's contributions to the Prop 8 campaign to ban same-sex marriage. Cornell Research Study Says Look at ADR to Find Competing Hotels from Hotel News Resource While some hotel managers might simply look out the window to see their competition, new hotel research from Cornell's Center for Hospitality Research finds that the real competition is hotels that are charging similar average rates. The study, "Product Tiers and ADR Clusters: Integrating Two Methods for Determining Hotel Competitive Sets," by Jin-Young Kim and Linda Canina, compared two different ways of identifying a hotel's competitive set. Developer Buying Sacramento's Marshall Hotel from The Sacramento Bee A national development company is acquiring downtown Sacramento's historic Marshall Hotel with plans to eventually build a 14-story "W"-style boutique hotel there. Property owner Pete Noack tells us that Presidio Co., developer of the Hyatt Place hotel nearing completion at UC Davis, will "soon" be buying the Marshall. More
