Study: Internet usage rises at U.S. hotels

Despite low occupancy and high access fees at most full-service properties, guests' Internet usage at U.S. hotels skyrocketed in 2009, according to a new study from iBAHN, the hotel industry's largest Internet service provider. Released last month, the study found that hotel guests spent 60 percent more time online in 2009 than in 2008. The reason, according to iBAHN: More hotel guests were logging on to the Internet in order to download entertainment content. More

The long-awaited hotel is a cornerstone of the $2.5 billion L.A. LIVE sports, residential and entertainment district. The 878-room property, which plans to be LEED-certified, shares space with the 123-room Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles and The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Cavallo Point Lodge honored with LEED Gold Certification from The Green Lodging News Cavallo Point-the Lodge at the Golden Gate announced it has been certified by the U.S. Green Building Council for achieving a LEED Gold standard for environmentally sustainable design and construction. It is the first national park lodge to receive LEED Certification. In addition, the project, developed and opened in 2008 on the site of Fort Baker—a turn-of-the century military outpost now part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area—is the first hotel on the National Register of Historic Places to be certified and the first new hotel in the San Francisco-Marin area and second in Northern California to achieve LEED Gold status.
