Lighting Retrofits Help Hotels and Data Centers Cut Energy Costs

Lighting and compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) retrofits are some of the easiest ways businesses including luxury hotels and data centers can cut their energy costs. Hotel lighting, for example, can account for up to 35 percent of a hotel’s energy bill, reports Hotel Interactive. Energy-efficient lighting by itself can reduce electricity use by up to 75 percent, according to the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA). More

Ownership of Dana Point’s St. Regis Monarch Beach resort has been turned over to New York-based Citigroup Inc., officials said. St. Regis, a unit of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., will continue to manage the five-star resort, officials said. The hotel's operations are not expected to be affected. The change in ownership for the 400-room hotel, one of Orange County’s most posh resorts, is the most notable example of an Orange County property going back to the bank during a downturn that has battered the hospitality industry over the past year.
