Higher shipments of passenger cars and light trucks south of the border helped drive up Canadian exports to the United States by 2.5 per cent in June to a record $37.1 billion, Statistics Canada reported recently.
The federal agency said imports from the United States edged up 0.3 per cent in June to $32.9 billion.
As a result, Canada's trade surplus with the United States widened from $3.3 billion in May to $4.1 billion.

Canadian shipments of oil via rail have hit an all-time record high, and analysts expect shipments to go higher amid a pipeline crunch.
New data from the National Energy Board shows Canadian oil companies shipped an average of 198,788 barrels of oil per day on railway cars in May, the latest month for which data is available, marking a record high and a 42 per cent increase over the 130,916 bpd shipped on rail in the same month a year earlier.

The Association of American Railroads reported the latest weekly U.S. rail traffic continued to power ahead, driven by positive economic factors and looming fears over trade.
Volumes for the week ended August 4 were 570,995 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.2 percent from the same week a year ago.
Traffic was 279,907 carloads, up 3 percent, while intermodal volume was 291,088 containers and trailers, up 5.4 percent.

The growth in global airfreight demand continues to slow with freight tonne kilometres increasing by 2.7 per cent in June, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) says.
The association says this continues the slowdown that began earlier in 2018, with growth for the first half of the year standing at 4.7 per cent, less than half the rate of 2017.

Drone Delivery Canada 'DDC or the Company', is pleased to announce Transport Canada has granted the Company a SFOC (Special Flight Operations Certificate) approving the Company to commence testing of its Robin X1400 cargo delivery drone in Canadian skies.
The Robin X1400 is now fully integrated with DDC's proprietary FLYTE management system and is capable of both larger payloads and greater flight ranges, of up to 60kms. Flight testing will commence in the second week of August, 2018.

The St. Lawrence Seaway reported gains in traditional and project cargo for the month of June. Year-to-date, total cargo shipments for the period from March 29 through June 30 were 12.1 million metric tons, a decrease of just over 2 percent compared to 2017. Overall, dry bulk cargo was down 16.18 percent; however, ores and concentrates cargoes were up nearly 275 percent. While general cargo was down 7.05 percent, steel slabs saw a rise of 182.15 percent.

Container line schedule reliability remains at its lowest-yet level for the time of the year despite improving from its worst-ever figures during the first quarter of this year, according to analysis by SeaIntel.
"Global average schedule reliability is still the lowest it has been in any second quarter, down 2.7 percentage points compared to the second quarter of last year, which was the previous lowest second-quarter score," SeaIntel said.
