Until now, the most controversial issue surrounding 3-D printing has inarguably been the headache that is 3D printed weaponry — particularly as it is currently playing out in the U.S. However, a report this week coming out of Europe has revealed that cargo thieves have found a way to clone security seals using 3-D printing technology, and have used the method to successfully hijack cargo from a pharmaceutical shipment.

Canada's exports declined 3.6 percent in August while imports edged up 0.2 percent. Export prices fell 3.0 percent and volumes 0.6 percent. For imports, prices were up 0.3 percent while volumes edged down 0.1 percent.
As a result, Canada's merchandise trade deficit with the world widened from $817 million in July to $2.5 billion in August.

Transcripts of text messages filed in court as part of a corporate espionage lawsuit between Canadian National Railway Co. and Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. allege CP's second-highest ranking executive encouraged a CP employee to use information he obtained while employed at rival CN.
In one text message CP's chief operating officer Keith Creel tells an employee there are "no restrictions" on using client lists obtained by a former employee of the company's Montreal-based competitor.
"It's a competitive world," Creel replied.

For the week ending Sept. 19, 2015, total U.S. rail traffic was 566,734 carloads and intermodal units, down 2.5 percent compared with the same week in 2014, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported on Sept. 23, 2015.
Total carloads for the week were 285,320 carloads, down 5.5 percent compared with the same week in 2014, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 281,414 containers and trailers, up 0.6 percent compared to 2014.

The only sign of trouble aboard a Norfolk Southern train, hauling roughly 9,000 tons of Canadian crude in western Pennsylvania last year, was a moderate sway in the locomotive as it entered a bend on the Kiskiminetas River.
The first 66 cars had passed safely around the curve when the emergency brakes suddenly engaged, slamming the train to a stop. The conductor trudged back nearly a mile through newly fallen snow to see what happened.
Twenty-one cars had derailed, one slamming through the wall of a nearby factory.

Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. announced yesterday it has acquired Steelcare Inc., Canada's largest steel transload facility.
The acquisition puts CP in a better position to manage its own supply chain and use in-house expertise, said James Clements, CP's vice president of strategic planning and transportation services, in a press release.
Steelcare is a transloading and distribution hub for steel products.

British Columbia has filled its vacant Container Trucking Commission Office, appointing Corinn Bell as acting commissioner and Vince Ready as acting deputy commissioner.
They'll help achieve and maintain peaceful relations between container trucking companies serving Port Metro Vancouver and the drivers who work for them.
"Corinn Bell and Vince Ready were instrumental in producing the report that informed the Container Trucking Act and its regulations," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Todd Stone.

Paccar is expanding its range of diesels in North America with the introduction of the 10.8-liter MX-11, based on a successful model in Europe.
The new engine weighs about 400 pounds less than the larger MX-13, and has six ratings from 355 to 430 hp with torque of 1,250 to 1,550 lb-ft., the company said.
Paccar launched its MX-11 in Europe in 2013, installing over 10,000 of them in DAF trucks in the last two years. Field testing has covered 2 million miles.

The International Air Transport Association
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air freight markets showing that in August freight markets stabilized after two months of decline. Measured in Freight Tonne Kilometers, air cargo volumes rose 0.2 percent compared to the same month a year ago. This is a modest improvement on July performance when freight demand contracted by 0.6 percent year-over-year.
The results varied widely by region. Carriers in the Middle East reported the most significant growth (10.4 percent) followed by African (2.3 percent) and European airlines (0.7 percent).

As it moves forward with its planned takeover of TNT, FedEx Express made moves to strengthen its presence in Europe by launching a $112 million expansion at Milan Malpensa Airport. The expansion, measuring 115,000 square feet, is scheduled to be completed sometime in mid-2016 and will accommodate the first daily courier connection from Italy to the United States.
FedEx said it expects the facilityj's staff of 200 to handle 20,000 express shipments each day, coordinate 44 weekly flights to and from Malpensa, and manage 480 connections by land.

The U.S. Coast Guard is focusing on the search for survivors after concluding the missing cargo ship El Faro sank at its last known location with Hurricane Joaquin bearing down on it.
Ninety-six hours after the cargo ship lost contact, the Coast Guard has only found debris from the ship.
There have been reports of survival suits, life boats and life rafts that have been checked for signs of life, Coast Guard Capt. Mark Fedor said at a news conference.
