Planning is continuing for the Engineer Reunion in Edmonton (June 23-26, 2016). We are looking forward to seeing as many sappers as possible gather together, to reconnect and share experiences. This reunion will highlight the deployment of 1 CER to Iraq and Kuwait in 1991... The first Engineer unit level deployment in 50 years!!! We will also welcome members of the squadrons who deployed from 2 CER and 5 RGC on Op RECORD between 1991 and 1993, as well as the folks who deployed to Qatar from Germany during the 1st Gulf War.

• MCpl Judah Leung is a member of 33 CER (Ottawa)
• Antoine Gendron is the son of WO JR Gendron (Ret'd) (Wainwright)
• Amanda Weeks is the wife of WO AF Weeks (Gagetown)
• Colin Phillips is the son of Maj Mark Phillips (Ottawa)
• Molly Moore is the daughter of Maj Tracy Moore (Edmonton)
These six successful applicants will be presented a cheque for $1,000 towards their post-secondary academic program.

The new robotic mine clearance systems has become operational with Russia's Southern Military District, Sputnik reported.
The Uran-6 sophisticated robotic demining system is a multi-purpose system which is powerful enough to replace 20 sappers and which can be remotely operated from a safe distance of about one kilometer.
Equipped with bulldozer blades and trawls, the Uran-6 detects, identifies and destroys mines containing up to 60 kilograms of TNT.
Canada's top general is shaking up the highest ranks of the Canadian Forces with the appointment of new commanders for the army and navy following several high-profile retirements.

Media in Calgary recently got an exclusive look at armed forces training.
The Kings Own Calgary Regiment held a virtual training event preparing members for assignment both at home and abroad.
Major Christopher Hunt with the Regiment says the focus is training junior commanders.
"It's really the core and essence of their job, being able to coordinate and plan within larger teams so that they're able to implement the larger plan they've been given." Hunt explains that it's much easier to train indoors first.
The Nunavut Impact Review Board has given the green light to Arctic Ram 2016, this year's version of an annual Arctic training exercise for members of Canada's armed forces.
This year, that's set to take place outside the hamlet of Resolute Bay on Cornwallis Island.
The details of the exercise wouldn't look out of place in a Tom Clancy novel.
A report commissioned by Manitoba warns flood protection in the province has dozens of significant weaknesses and needs $1 billion in upgrades now to prevent billions in damage down the road.
The 1,600-page study details more than 100 vulnerabilities.
It says defences along the Assiniboine River between Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg are particularly weak and suggests that a flood in the area has the potential to cause up to $2 billion in damage if they fail.

Soldiers from the 56th Field Artillery Regiment will be honing their skills in Winona, ON.
About 40 of them will conduct their "Cold Start" training exercise on public roads and mostly in the area of the Winona Range.
Residents should use caution when passing military vehicles parked on shoulders because soldiers might be on foot nearby.
