Montreal Annual Meeting hotels

The COA has secured room blocks at four Montreal hotels located near the Palais des congrès (convention centre). Visit the Hotels page at www.aoacoa2014.org for the property listing or use the central booking link to make your reservation. The 2014 Combined Meeting of the AOA and COA will be held from June 18-21 at the Palais des congrès. Don't wait until the last minute to make your hotel arrangements!

Graduation Ceremony honouring R5 residents
COA
COA members are encouraged to attend a special ceremony honouring the R5 residents who will be completing their Royal College Fellowship Examinations this year. The ceremony will be held during the upcoming Combined AOA and COA Annual Meeting on Friday, June 20 at 12:00. PGY5 Residents will be presented with a certificate by their Program Director and congratulated by the COA Executive. Join us in congratulating the Class of 2014 at this special event.

Cérémonie spéciale de fin de résidence pour tous les résidents de cinquième année
L'ACO
Tous les membres de l'ACO sont conviés à une cérémonie spéciale en l'honneur des résidents qui passent leur examen au titre d'associé du Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada cette année. La cérémonie aura lieu le vendredi 20 juin, à midi, à l'occasion de la Réunion annuelle conjointe de l'AOA et de l'ACO. Les résidents recevront les félicitations de la direction de l'ACO et un certificat des mains de leur directeur de programme. Soyez des nôtres pour féliciter la cohorte de 2014 à cette occasion spéciale.

Bhandari receives Order of Ontario
McMaster University
Dr. Mohit Bhandari, a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon whose research has profoundly changed the practice of orthopedic medicine, was recently honoured with the Order of Ontario. Bhandari, a professor of surgery of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, is a leader in intimate partner violence prevention. He has worked extensively to educate his colleagues on how to identify the physical signs and to support victims.

Funding for extra orthopaedic surgeries
Chatham Daily News
The Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network has provided $309,000 in one-time funding for an additional 117 orthopaedic surgeries in Chatham-Kent, Windsor and Sarnia. A total of 42 surgeries are being allotted to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, including 35 knees, four hips and three shoulder procedures.

Les Canadiens ont les temps d'attente les plus longs dans les services d'urgence par rapport aux pays les plus riches de l'OCDE, selon une étude du Conseil canadien de la santé. "Les Canadiens semblent avoir une vision optimiste des soins de santé et de leur propre état de santé, mais le rapport soulève de sérieuses questions sur (...) l'accès aux soins après les heures normales de travail et l'utilisation des programmes de dépistage", a estimé Mark Dobrow, directeur de cet organisme parapublic.
