An easy way to save your practice time and increase patient satisfaction
COA
Your time is valuable, but when patients are anxious they turn to you and your staff for answers. Wouldn't it benefit your practice to free up some of your time by referring them to another trusted source?

The Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation has devised a program for you where your patients can speak to trained volunteers who are past patients themselves. Our volunteers are trained to be professional, offer your clients relevant information and share their experience, but will not offer medical opinions. We know you're busy! With this in mind, we have postcards with information about the program for your patients. Simply display them in your office or clinic or include them in your patient packages. E-mail patient-ed@canorth.org with your request for a supply of these Ortho Connect postcards, and please include your mailing address.

Are Canadian trauma centres and emergency responders ready for a disaster?
The Globe and Mail
The events in Boston raise questions over Canada's preparedness for a similar disaster. A 2011 survey of Canadian trauma centres published in the Canadian Journal of Surgery found major gaps in their disaster plans. For instance, less than half of the trauma centres had done a disaster drill in the previous two years and many hospitals did not have the medical directors of trauma on their emergency-preparedness committees.

Les échographies en cliniques privées bientôt couvertes
Radio-Canada

How an operating room innovation at The Ottawa Hospital helped trim wait times
Ottawa Citizen
Some time ago, anesthesiologists at The Ottawa Hospital were working out what they could do to help reduce wait times for surgery. All surgeries require an anesthesiologist. A shortage of these specialists in Ontario was a knot in the wait-time snarl. Prompted by an initiative of the anesthesiology section of the Ontario Medical Association, the Ottawa anesthesiologists created an "anesthesia care team" (ACT) for cataract surgery.
