Steps for getting a medication approved for sale in Canada
The Vancouver Sun
Drug companies are required to conduct clinical trials in four phases. The first three give the drug to increasingly larger groups of people to test its safety and effectiveness, and how it compares to other commonly used treatments. The fourth is conducted after the drug is on the market to monitor long-term benefits and risks. Radio-Canada
Un juge québécois a décrété que les compagnies de tabac dont le siège social est situé à l'étranger ne sont pas protégées contre une poursuite intentée par le gouvernement du Québec afin de recouvrer les coûts des soins de santé liés au tabac. Canada.com

Sometimes that patient is lucky and still gets his or her own blood type. The error isn't even caught. In the worst cases, however, "mismatches" can kill by causing a rapid and catastrophic reaction in which the person's body starts destroying the red blood cells almost immediately after infusion.
