Make your voice heard on increasing Erate funding!
Act before, Monday Sept. 16

Dear Education Technology Leader:

We have a "once-in-17-year" opportunity to increase our nation's investment in the highly successful E-Rate program. As you know, the Erate is the most important funding source for technology in schools. Erate enables American students to access high-speed broadband, wireless and needed infrastructure to enable a digital education conversion.

The Federal Communications Commission needs to hears from you about the importance of Erate and doubling its funding level.

It's easy to do. Check out the simple templates and instructions.

Next Monday, we will be releasing highlights of our new CoSN national survey, in partnership with Market Data Research (MDR), on Erate. We found that 99% of districts responding to the survey indicated they will need additional internet bandwidth and connectivity over the next 36 months. The broadband crisis in schools will only become worse if we don't increase funding for the Erate.

I know that this is a very busy time for everyone with back-to-school activities. But I hope you will take a few moments to make a difference by submitting your comments on the value of Erate to your district by next Monday.

P.S. — I hope you saw a recent OpEd by Jim Goodnight, SAS CEO, and me on E-Rate Funding Needs Speedy Recovery to Get Schools Up to Par. Also, check out my recent column in eSchool News on Time to Ask for More Erate Funding.
