10. Dial An Exchange and timeshareAdvisor team up to provide DAE members with resort reviews

From March 27, 2014: Dial An Exchange (DAE) and timeshareAdvisor form a strategic partnership, to provide a visitor-feedback mechanism for members of the DAE exchange service. DAE and timeshareAdvisor will make reviewconnect, a new online review tool that allows DAE to request and display guest reviews directly on DAElive.com, available for exchangers to share their experiences.

9. 2013 banner year for U.S. vacation timeshare industry

From July 10, 2014: The U.S. timeshare industry enjoyed significant growth in 2013, according to the State of the Vacation Timeshare Industry: United States Study 2014 Edition conducted by Ernst & Young. Compared to 2012, sales volume increased nearly 11 per cent, average sales price rose nine per cent, and there are 29 per cent more resorts planned for the upcoming year.

8. South Florida man sentenced for bilking consumers in timeshare resale fraud

From July 17, 2014: Peter L. Massimino II was recently sentenced to 87 months in federal prison to be followed by two years supervised release, Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced. United States District Court Judge Michael J. Reagan sentenced Massimino for conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud in connection with an international telemarketing scam.

7. First Canadian Resort Conference delivers powerful content

From Sept. 25, 2014: The first annual Canadian Resort Conference (CRC), hosted by Perspective Group on behalf of Canadian Resort Development Conference concluded after a day and a half of poignant sessions and debates. Attracting 80 senior level representatives from 50 companies spanning Canada, The United States, Mexico & the Caribbean, this event drew from industry experts in a series of Q&A panel session debates.

6. Confusion and court proceedings continue for Sunchaser Resort owners

From March 27, 2014: After several months of further legal debate, the actual court orders arising from last fall's B.C. Supreme Court proceedings initiated by Northmont Resort Properties Ltd. over the Sunchaser Resort in Fairmount, B.C., have been settled. The first of the orders made by the Supreme Court of British Columbia, dealing with the resort operator's right to unilaterally impose a fixed termination fee on any vacation interest owner who wished to surrender their time share interest, clearly states that no such unilateral right exists.

3. Shared property owners in North Vancouver can force sale, B.C. Supreme Court rules

From Jan. 23, 2014: A Supreme Court judge has ruled that a majority of owners in a strata-type project in North Vancouver can ask for a sale of the whole property, even if a minority says the sale will force them out of the only affordable homes in their neighbourhood. That adds one more decision to an increasingly contentious issue in British Columbia — how to deal with jointly owned properties in a province where a quarter of the population lives in collectively owned housing, largely stratas.

1. Sunchaser Resort Timeshare owners are successful overturning judgment against them

From July 2, 2014: In November 2013 a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia had decided that Northmont Resort Properties was entitled to unilaterally decide to undertake a $51 million renovation project at the Sunchaser Resort in Fairmont Hot Springs, and pass all of those costs onto the timeshare owners without any significant or meaningful consultation with the owners.
