Dolce, Wyndham deal makes 'perfect sense'

The $57 million acquisition of Dolce Hotels and Resorts by Wyndham Hotel Group is a marriage of familiar bedfellows, according to the former's president and CEO, Steve Rudnitsky. The man himself personifies the connection. Before joining Dolce in November 2008, Rudnitsky served in the top post at Wyndham for six years.

Kyle R. Robertson sentenced in timeshare resale fraud case

Kyle Richard Robertson, 32, of Miami, FL, was sentenced in the United States District Court in East St. Louis, Illinois on one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud in connection with telemarketing, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1349. Robertson was sentenced to 28 months in prison, to be followed by two years of supervised release.

Luxury Montage resort sells for $360 million to Strategic

Strategic Hotels & Resorts, whose properties include the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay in California, added to its holdings in the state with the $360 million purchase of the Montage Laguna Beach luxury resort. The purchase of the 250-room property was funded by issuing 7.35 million shares of common stock valued at $100 million, assuming a $150 million mortgage backed by the hotel and using existing cash, Chicago-based Strategic said.

Canada's richest 1 per cent aren't the only ones prospering

In keeping with a recent Oxfam International report that projected that more than half of all wealth will fall under control of the most prosperous one per cent by next year, Canada's billionaires can expect to get richer than ever. But so, too, should a tranche of the 99 per cent, some economists say, citing recent Statistics Canada data trends. "It's not the doomsday predictions everyone's talking about," said Charles Lammam with the Fraser Institute, a think tank that has received funding from U.S. oil barons Charles and David Koch.
