Canada-Mexico air travel accord set to boost tourism and business links

Canada and Mexico are putting new air travel measures in place that should boost tourism and business opportunities between the two countries, Mexico's ambassador says. Francisco Suarez said the change is among the initiatives that could come up when Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto meet in Mexico next week. The two leaders will be joined by U.S. President Barack Obama on for a trilateral summit that is expected to focus on economic co-operation.

Timeshare division drives increase in Wyndham Worldwide earnings

Wyndham Worldwide's fourth-quarter earnings rose 6.2 per cent from a year earlier as profit gains within the company's vacation-ownership unit more than offset a drop in profit from its hotels division. Net income increased to $86 million from $81 million a year earlier, while revenue rose 9.2 per cent to $1.2 billion. Vacation-ownership earnings, excluding some items, jumped 21 per cent from a year earlier, more than offsetting the impact of a 24 per cent decline in earnings from Wyndham's hotel division.

RCI adds 175 new affiliated properties to exchange network in 2013

RCI, the global leader in vacation exchange and part of the Wyndham Worldwide family of brands, added 175 new properties to its global exchange network in 2013, representing more than a 16 per cent increase over the previous year. The newly affiliated properties include resorts in North America, South America, Europe, India and Asia.

Genting to build new casino in South Korea

A new casino is coming to South Korea's Jeju Island. The price tag? A whopping $2.2 billion. The firms behind the plan are Genting and Landing International Development. According to Bloomberg, "Resorts World Jeju will be modeled after Genting's Resorts World Sentosa, one of Singapore's two gambling resorts, and will be developed by a 50-50 joint venture formed by the two companies."

BuyaTimeshare.com releases timeshare offer amounts for 2013

The 2013 calendar year finished strongly for online timeshare resale advertiser BuyaTimeshare.com, with an increase in fourth quarter buyer offers pushing the total dollar amount over the $90 million mark for the year. The online timeshare resale pioneer, which just celebrated its 14th year in business, saw the number of inbound buyer offers jump 29 per cent in Q4 '13, generating over $8.5 million in confirmed offers sent by prospective buyers to advertisers through the company's website.

Trump buys Doonbeg golf resort in Co Clare

U.S. property mogul Donald Trump has swooped in to buy the five-star Doonbeg golf resort in Co Clare. The flamboyant billionaire and star of the U.S. reality TV show, The Apprentice, acquired the resort from U.S. hedge fund King Street in a deal said to be worth $15 million. Trump, who already owns a portfolio of 15 golf resorts around the world, is understood to have signed contracts with the owners.

Las Vegas' newest luxury casino resort

If you've driven the Las Vegas Strip lately, you may have noticed some major construction going on just below the Stratosphere, near the northern end of the Strip. There are two major projects here, the first of which is the SLS Las Vegas, a 1,600-room luxury casino resort from growing hospitality company sbe. This will be the fourth SLS property in the U.S. The just announced opening date is Labor Day weekend, and this will be the most notable new hotel opening in the city at least since the Nobu Hotel.
