The Canadian Resort Development Association says it's very difficult to sell any form of timeshare. "Be very, very cautious and hesitant about companies that require upfront fees in any way shape or form, regardless of what they call those fees," suggests Jon Zwickel. He recommends checking with resort managers, developers or owners' associations, who may be able to put up postings on bulletin boards, websites or in newsletters.

Dundee resort welcomes vacation community plan

Dundee Resort & Golf Club in Cape Breton hopes to stay open year-round with the announcement of plans to develop up to 180 vacation homes surrounding the West Bay golf course. A Cut Above Cedar Homes & Cottages in Burnside Park and Iwan Construction have bought the land and partnered to fund the development, which could result in more than $50 million in local investment, the owner of Cape Breton Resorts said in an interview.

People are being warned about a company offering people high prices by phone for their timeshares. Net Management Group and an associate company, Harris Title, have had numerous complaints filed against them, according to a release from the Better Business Bureau serving Eastern Michigan.

Developer: Louisbourg Resort Golf & Spa in Cape Breton will go ahead

The developer of the Louisbourg Resort Golf & Spa in Cape Breton recently that the project will advance this construction season. Issues linked to court action were launched by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and sluggish economic conditions in Europe, should be resolved to the point that some work at the site can move forward this year, developer Henric Bauermeister said.

Financially troubled Manning Park Resort to close indefinitely unless buyer can be found

The sun is about to set on the all-season Manning Park Resort east of Hope. The resort will close indefinitely soon unless a buyer can be found for the operation, which went into receivership in 2009. Campgrounds will remain open. "We're shutting it down," David Bowra, president of the Bowra Group, the receiver-manager, confirmed in an interview. "We can't justify continuing to operate it."

Redstone development to break new ground
