Starwood's Sheraton Hotels & Resorts revealed the results of a newly commissioned survey on global wine and travel trends: the survey found that after a long day, one out of every two people would reach for a glass of wine (48 per cent), rather than their smartphone/tablet (15 per cent) or even their spouse (15 per cent). The research was conducted by leading market research firm, StudyLogic, and surveyed respondents from the United States, Germany, China, Chile, and Argentina.

8 arrested for role in timeshare telemarketing fraud scheme

Eight residents of Florida were arrested or self-surrendered over the past few days on charges outlined in a federal indictment returned by a grand jury in Dallas. The allegations in the indictment stem from the operation of a telemarketing fraud scheme that targeted persons over the age of 55.

TATOC, The Timeshare Association (Timeshare Owners and Committees), has announced the launch of a video-based campaign to promote itself and the services it provides to timeshare owners, resort committees, the general timeshare industry and the wider legal, consumer and media community. Explaining the Association's decision to invest in this marketing tool, TATOC CEO and executive chairman Harry Taylor said: "The association has just celebrated its 25th anniversary and we are now involved in every aspect of the timeshare industry representing the interests of timeshare consumers. We felt that a short video was the best way to showcase who we are today in a quick and easy-to-follow way."

Hilton Honors security flaw exposed all accounts

Hospitality giant Hilton Hotels & Resorts recently started offering Hilton HHonors Awards members 1,000 free awards points to those who agreed to change their passwords for the online service prior to April 1, 2015, when the company said the change would become mandatory. Ironically, that same campaign led to the discovery of a simple yet powerful flaw in the site that let anyone hijack a Hilton Honors account just by knowing or guessing its valid 9-digit Hilton Honors account number.

Keith Kosco pleads guilty to timeshare fraud

Keith D. Kosco, 56, of Williamsburg, Va., pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Mail and Wire Fraud, Aggravated Identity Theft and Engaging in Monetary Transactions in Property Derived from Specified Unlawful Activity. Kosco faces a maximum penalty of twenty years on the conspiracy count, 10 years for engaging in monetary transactions with proceeds from unlawful activity, and a mandatory two year sentence for aggravated identity theft when he is sentenced on July 13, 2015.
