Grand Pacific Resort Management (GPRM) of Carlsbad, CA has been selected by the Board of Directors of the Makai Club Cottages and Condos Homeowners Association to manage its timeshare resort on the island of Kaua'i, Hawaii. Included in their full-service management contract are resort operations, design and purchasing, renovations, and Owner Services including inventory and reservations support.

Wyndham timeshare unit inks deals for China expansion

The timeshare management unit of Wyndham Worldwide has struck two deals with Chinese government agencies to help promote its expansion into the nation, it announced recently. RCI struck memorandums of understanding — one with the Yangshuo County Government and the other with the Hainan Tourism Development Commission and HNA Hotel Group — to collaborate on introducing its business to the two Chinese areas.

Fortress-owned Intrawest Resorts files to go public

Mountain resort operator Intrawest Resorts Holdings, owned by private equity firm Fortress Investment Group, filed with U.S. regulators to raise up to $100 million in an initial public offering of common stock. The owner of Canadian Mountain Holidays, the largest heli-skiing adventure operator in the world, was taken private by Fortress in 2006 for about $2.8 billion, including debt.

Demand at upscale properties gives U.S. hoteliers Q3 boost

U.S. hoteliers' third-quarter financial results reflected a domestic lodging market in which higher-end brands continue to see steady demand growth and the mid-scale sector is only slightly less dependable. Marriott International and Hyatt Hotels recently each reported higher Q3 earnings, largely on gains from their North American upscale properties in both the full-service and select-service sector.

Developer takes another run at Squamish-area ski resort

The on-again, off-again Garibaldi at Squamish (GAS) mountain resort project is taking another run at environmental approval and this time the proponent believes the provincial government will send it to the next stage. "This project will go ahead," said founder and vice-chairman of GAS, Wolfgang Richter, of the four-season $5.5 billion project planned 15 kilometres north of Squamish — about 30 minutes closer to Vancouver than Whistler.

The American Resort Development Association (ARDA) has released an infographic to help timeshare owners navigate the often thorny secondary market during the sale of a timeshare product. Due to an overcrowded, confusing, and unregulated timeshare resale marketplace, owners often fall victim to unscrupulous re-sellers and misinformation. New timeshare buildings may replace Patrick Henry Inn

Yellow caution tape has been placed around one of the entrances to Patrick Henry Inn in Williamsburg, VA, indicating that area of the hotel may soon be demolished to make way for three new timeshares. City planning documents show Bluegreen Vacations Unlimited, which owns Patrick Henry, is looking to eventually demolish the entire building and design a replacement for the Inn.

Wyndham Worldwide completes $300 million term securitization

Wyndham Worldwide has announced that it has completed a term securitization transaction involving the issuance of $300 million of asset-backed notes. Sierra Timeshare 2013-3 Receivables Funding issued $231 million of A rated notes and $69 million of BBB rated notes. The notes were backed by vacation ownership loans and had coupons of 2.20 per cent and 2.70 per cent, respectively, for an overall weighted average coupon of 2.32 per cent. The advance rate for this transaction was 88 per cent.

Tourism sector goes international
