As was recently affirmed at the Shared Ownership Investment Conference (SOIC), held in Miami in October 2014, current industry trends have created a unique opportunity for new entrants into the shared ownership arena. In recent years, a capital-light strategy has emerged within the industry whereby timeshare organizations such as Wyndham Vacation Resorts, Hilton Grand Vacations Club, Bluegreen Vacations, and Hyatt Vacation Club provide sales and marketing on a fee-for-service basis.

Florida woman sentenced for telemarketing scheme

Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced recently that Amber Jones, 28, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, was sentenced in United States District Court in East St. Louis, IL, on one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. Jones was sentenced to one day in prison, to be followed by two years of supervised release. Jones was also ordered to pay $6,934 in restitution and a $100 special assessment.

Travel company owners and employees to pay $200,000 in restitution for selling over-priced vacation club memberships

The owners and former employees of travel companies based in Plymouth and Methuen have agreed to pay more than $200,000 in restitution to settle allegations that they sold over-priced vacation club memberships by using deceptive sales and marketing tactics, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced.
