Call for Submissions for the Winter 2015 issue of the CUR Quarterly:
In today's higher education environment of rising tuition and decreasing state funding for colleges and universities, as well as shifting priorities on the federal level, faculty and administrators must be increasingly creative in raising support for undergraduate research programs. The Winter 2015 CUR Quarterly will feature articles related to finding funding outside of the typical grant application process for undergraduate research. We seek 4 to 5 pieces that describe how faculty and students are becoming more innovative in seeking funding for their research.
New Date and Time: CUR Webinar: 'Undergraduate Research in Service of Sustainability: Toward a National Agenda'
Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, from 3 to 4 p.m. ET
The fall 2014 CUR Quarterly highlighted some extraordinary examples of undergraduate research serving the cause of environmental sustainability, often through community action and using the campus as a "living laboratory" of practice. In this webinar, two national experts in the field of sustainability practices, education, and research provide additional examples of how campuses are engaging undergraduates in sustainability-focused projects, and how individual campus-based efforts are linking together to form broad coalitions dedicated to sustainable practices.

Psychology Division Presentation Awards
The Psychology Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research will be providing presentation awards ($100 Amazon gift cards) to students of CUR members who are presenting at the following regional undergraduate research conferences: Rocky Mountain Psychological Association (RMPA), Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA), Eastern Psychological Association (EPA), Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA), Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) and Western Psychological Association (WPA). One award will also be given to students presenting at Association for Psychological Science (APS). Students are encouraged to use the award to purchase educational materials.
- Student must be an undergraduate enrolled at a 2- or 4-year institution during the academic year of 2014-2015.
- Upon applying for this award, the student must have submitted an abstract to one of the following psychology conferences: RMPA, MPA, EPA, SEPA, SWPA WPA, or APS.
- In order to receive the award, the student must be accepted to present the research.
- Student's mentor must be a CUR member or the student’s home institution must be a CUR institutional member.
- If multiple undergraduate students co-author a single presentation, they will share the award.

- Short abstract including title and author names and affiliations.
- Long abstract or 1-2 page summary of the project.
- Brief (250-350 word) description of the role of the student in the research project.
- Name of the CUR faculty mentor. Prior to selection it will be determined that the mentor is a CUR member in good standing.
- Copy of acceptance e-mail (this can be included with the application or sent to Mary Pat Twomey (firstname.lastname@example.org) upon receipt.
Selection Criteria: The abstract and long abstract or 1-2 page summary of the research will be reviewed by three CUR councilors for quality and one research project will be selected from each of the above listed conferences for the award. Contribution of the student to the work will also be considered.

Social Science Division Student Travel Awards
The Social Science Division is offering a limited number of travel grants, up to $200 each, for undergraduate students presenting the results of research that they have conducted at a regional or national, discipline-specific meeting during the academic year 2014-2015. Award recipients are required to acknowledge CUR for support of their travel in their talk or poster. After the meeting, a brief report about the experience is expected. Minority students are encouraged to apply.
Biology Division Student Travel Awards Announcement
The Biology Division is offering a limited number of travel grants, up to $250 each, for undergraduate students presenting original research results at a regional or national, discipline-specific meeting during the fiscal year 2014-2015. Award recipients are required to acknowledge CUR for support of their travel in their talk or poster, to complete a short evaluation form about their meeting experience and to submit a PDF file of their poster. Minority students are encouraged to apply.

Undergraduate Research in the Social Sciences Institute

The Institute will assist campus-based teams of 3-6 members in developing transformative opportunities for undergraduate research in the social sciences.
Building on the information shared at the institute and working in close collaboration with a team facilitator, institute teams will leave with an action plan to bring back to their campus to strengthen and grow undergraduate research in the social sciences on their respective campuses. Although not required, teams will be encouraged to establish interdisciplinary action plans both within and beyond the social sciences to best leverage resources on their campus.
Integrating Undergraduate Research into the Curriculum Institute

During this CUR Institute, teams of 3-5 members will explore multiple ways to think about scaling the benefits of undergraduate research to a larger percentage of students by integrating research into the curriculum.
The goals of this Institute are to:
- Develop curricular materials that can be used in the classroom to engage all students in research
- Evaluate different models of UR integration at different points in the undergraduate curriculum
- Share examples of successful UR integration
- Discuss the impact of disciplinary structures and issues as they impact the integration of UR in the curriculum
- Explore a variety of methods to assess the success of UR integration
- Understand institutional opportunities and challenges to creating UR experiences for a greater percentage of students

University of Missouri Summer 2015 UR Programs for Visiting Students
University of Missouri
The Office of Undergraduate Research at the University of Missouri (MU) coordinates a number of summer research programs for undergraduates enrolled at other institutions. All programs run for 9 weeks (Tuesday, June 2 -Friday, July 31), with travel days being Monday, June 1 and Saturday, August 1. Students selected for these programs live in on-campus, air-conditioned housing (double rooms), and receive a meal plan, covered by the program. Summer interns also receive one hour of academic/research credit, travel to and from Columbia, and a stipend of $3,600.

What is CREU?
CREU is a web-based crowdfunding platform for undergraduate research that can be found at http://creu.tilt.com. Potential research projects from any nonprofit two or four year US institution can be posted to the site in order to accept donations.
Department of Energy 2015 Summer Term Internship/Fellowship Program

The Office of Science / Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications to its 2015 Summer Term internship/fellowship programs. These programs, which offer opportunities for direct engagement in scientific research and technology featuring specialized instrumentation; large-scale, multidisciplinary efforts; and/or scientific user facilities, are available for undergraduate students enrolled at community colleges and/or four-year institutions, and for visiting faculty. Selected students or faculty participate at one of 17 DOE Laboratories/Facilities, receive stipends, and may qualify for travel and housing assistance.
