MetLife Stadium, Home of This Year's Super Bowl, May Be "The Greenest Stadium in the U.S."
Lloyd Alter writes, "When Skanska first sent information on the new MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and called it 'one of the greenest stadiums in the U.S.,' my eyes rolled. (we have heard this before) How can an 82,000 seat stadium be green? What about the transportation energy intensity of all those people driving there, let alone the private jets? When 400 planes flew into Phoenix a few years ago, I called it a greenhouse gastravaganza."More

D.C. Seeks Firm to Design, Build, Operate "Integrated Premium Transit System"
    Washington City Paper
When streetcars begin carrying passengers down H Street NE sometime in the next few months, they'll usher in not just the revival of a transportation technology that's been extinct in the District since 1962, but also the first step in D.C.'s "Integrated Premium Transit system." Today, the District Department of Transportation issued a solicitation for firms interested in designing, building, operating, and maintaining the IPT, as it's referred to in the solicitation. Despite the fancy name, the IPT isn't really anything more than the planned streetcar network and the existing bus network within the District—but brought together under a single operator.More

Taking California's Bullet Train to a Greener Future
    Los Angeles Times
California's high-speed rail is one of the largest public works projects anywhere in the world.
