Houston loop project moves to next phase
The Texas Department of Transportation says it's moving forward on the next phase of the Grand Parkway, an ambitious plan to build a 180-mile ring road around the greater Houston area. Once finished, the Grand Parkway is expected to become the longest beltway in the country. It will pass through seven counties and encircle the two existing loops, the 45-mile Interstate-610 loop and the 88-mile State Beltway 8.More

After years of enduring one toll project on top of another, North Texans are striking back and insisting that they get some new free lanes, too. This latest twist in the state's effort to keep up with congestion is playing out on Interstate 35E, a 28-mile corridor from Interstate 635 in Dallas to U.S. 380 in Denton. The highway is overdue for a makeover that could cost more than $4 billion and is tentatively scheduled to begin in about a year.More

Turner Construction announces plans for CTC
Huntsville, Ala.-based Turner Construction Company announced plans for the building of the $500 million Carpenter Technology Corporation facility in southern Limestone County. Carpenter Technology Corporation, with headquarters in Wyomissing, Pa., selected Turner and its design-build partner, Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon to build the plant.More

Thomas McMonagle elected 2012 President of Water Design-Build Council
The Water Design-Build Council announced that Tom McMonagle, P.E., has been elected as its new President for 2012. McMonagle is a Senior Vice President at AECOM Water, directing its North American design-build practice, with overall responsibility for design-build projects, ranging from new water and wastewater treatment plants to construction of biosolids/municipal waste facilities. McMonagle served as WDBC's 2nd Vice President and Treasurer in 2011 and has been AECOM Water's representative on the Council for several years.More
Richmond Airport Connector Road in Virginia recognized by Mid-Atlantic DBIA
The Mid-Atlantic Region of the Design-Build Institute of America recently awarded its Design-Build Merit Award for Transportation to the Richmond Airport Connector Road, a turnkey design-build project. Dewberry, as engineer-of-record, teamed with the contractor, American Infrastructure-VA, Inc. on the design of this roadway leading directly into Richmond International Airport and reducing travel time to the airport by about 10 minutes.
