Two decades of DBIA
Edward C. Wundram, AIA, CSI, DBIA, joined the Design-Build Institute of America in 1994. A graduate of Georgia Tech's architecture program he became a partner with George Heery at what is now Heery International. "George taught me how to use performance specifications for major building systems," Wundram says. He left Heery in 1970 to run a systems building program for Portland (Oregon) Public Schools funded through a grant from the Ford Foundation’s Educational Facilities Laboratory.More

Arizona Public Service Company selects Black & Veatch to design, build 32 MW solar photovoltaic plant
Arizona Public Service Company has selected Black & Veatch to design and build a new 32 MW solar photovoltaic plant in the US state of Arizona through APS' AZ Sun Program. The PV Gila Bend Solar Power Plant will comprise more than 170,000 polycrystalline PV modules mounted on single-axis trackers on a 160 hectare site in Gila Bend, Ariz. Black & Veatch plans to begin construction on the project in October 2013, with completion scheduled for June 2014.More

The upgrades, designed by Dewberry and constructed by M.A. Bongiovanni, Inc., include an $8-million flow equalization facilities expansion project that protects the wastewater treatment process from high influent flow rates and a $15.2-million reclaimed water distribution system that enables treated effluent to be reused at the Covanta Energy/Resource Recovery Facility and at nearby recreational areas. Opus wins contract for 51 Main apartment project
Kansas City Business Journal
Opus Design Build LLC has been selected as the design-build contractor for 51 Main, a new high-end apartment and retail project south of the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. A subsidiary of Minneapolis commercial real estate developers The Opus Group, the firm will build a six-story luxury apartment complex featuring 176 living units and 10,000 square feet of retail space. It will be at the corner of 51st and Main streets in the South Plaza neighborhood, directly west of the University of Missouri-Kansas City.More

Maryland 355 design-build project
On April 19, 2013, the Montgomery County DOT will hold an industry informational meeting regarding the MD 355 Crossing (BRAC) and MD 355/Jones Bridge Road Intersection Improvements. This is an initiative of Montgomery County in coordination with the Maryland State Highway Administration, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Department of the Navy, Naval District Washington, the National Institutes of Health and the Federal Highway Administration.
Kansas DOT releases RFQ
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, for the Johnson County Gateway: I-435/I-35/K-10 Interchange Phase 2 design-build project. The RFQ is available at: http://www.jocogateway.com. The deadline for submitting qualifications is April 17, 2013.
