Five highway builders competing for Georgia's Northwest Corridor

Alfonso Architects takes flight in Tampa, Fla.

Alfonso Architects along with The Beck Group has been awarded the $17 million design-build project at Tampa International Airport in Tampa, Fla. The complex expansion will include 30,000 square feet of additional space and a 40,000 square foot renovation of existing space at Airside F. Project design starts this month with completion of the first phase by the end of 2012 and the entire upgrade finished by August 2013.The terminal, which originally opened in 1987, handles most of the international flights including daily non-stop service to London and four weekly flights to Cuba. Balfour Beatty scoops 23 million pound Scottish civils packages

Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering has secured contracts with Network Rail and BAE Systems in Scotland worth over 23 million pounds. Working for BAE Systems, the civils firm will build a vital 7.2 million pound access road in their Bishopton development including a bridge over the existing railway. More

Opus/Arup team wins 49 million pound Herts highway deal

Hertfordshire County Council has awarded a seven-year client support contract for road network management services to a joint venture team of Opus International Consultants and Arup. The consultants will work with the council to develop, implement and manage the technical programmes for the highway network under a deal worth 7 million pounds a year for seven years. More

Skanska boosts UK profits despite turnover dip

Skanska continued to boost profits in the U.K. while letting turnover dip during the first six months of 2011. Results for the six months to June 30 show U.K. revenue dropped to 537 million pounds but operating margins ticked-up to 3.8 percent from 3.3 percent for the full year in 2011 while operating income rose to 20.2 million pounds.
