University of Maryland to build $200 million proton cancer center

A new $200 million cancer treatment facility is planned for the University of Maryland BioPark in West Baltimore. The University of Maryland School of Medicine said recently it is partnering with Nevada-based Advanced Particle Therapy LLC to open the advanced radiation technology cancer treatment facility.More
Gresham, Ore., City Hall energy project sees the light - the sun

The city was awarded $900,000 in federal Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant funds earlier this year and the U.S. Department of Energy has approved the use of $500,000 of those funds to install a renewable energy project with a significant solar component on city property around City Hall, which includes the old building, that houses police, fire and the Gresham-Barlow School District offices. The City Council recently approved a resolution that will allow staff to go forward with the design-build process for the project as an alternative to the competitive, lowest bidding process.More

But cities also need to find innovative ways to save money, which is what Measure J, on the Nov. 2 ballot in Anaheim, is supposed to do, according to advocates.More
California law clears path for toll lanes on 91 Freeway
A new law in California is intended to clear any legal hurdles for Riverside County's project to build toll lanes on California's 91 Freeway. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill that allows the Riverside County Transportation Commission to use a new way to complete major expansion on state Route 91. The project will replace the car pool lanes with two toll lanes and a general use lane in both directions from the Orange County line to Interstate 15. The project was approved for a process called "design-build" by the California Transportation Commission in the spring.More
