General Counsel, Tom Porter, JD, DBIA released a new book on the business of construction and design-build.
Granite is one of the largest heavy-civil contractors/
construction materials producer in the nation.
Two decades of DBIA
When DBIA was established in 1993, design-build authority at the state level was confined to Virginia. Today, only eight states limit public agencies' use of design-build procurement and there is not a single state in which design-build is not permitted in some limited fashion.
Thruway Chairman Milstein announces community meetings with new NY bridge's design-build team
The Hudson Independent
New York State Thruway Authority Chairman Howard P. Milstein has announced community meetings where the public will get its first chance to meet the selected design-build team for the New NY Bridge.
Next week, representatives from Tappan Zee Constructors, the Thruway Authority, and the Governor's office will host meetings in Westchester and Rockland Counties to present the design-build team's bridge design and comprehensive plan in addition to answering questions from the public.
The Pankow Legacy
A new book, A Better Way to Build: A History of the Pankow Companies, was recently reviewed in both DBIA's IQ and ENR. It details how Charles Pankow adopted and promoted the design-build method of project delivery. The book is available from DBIA's online bookstore. The Design Management Guide for the Design-Build Environment mentioned in the review is also available through the bookstore. DBIA members note: a condensed version of the Guide is part of DBIA's Manual of Practice and is available for download from the website.
Two top candidates decline interest in succeeding LaHood
Transportation Issues Daily
Two top candidates to succeed U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood apparently are taking themselves out of the running. Los Angeles Mayor Anthony Villaraigosa, a candidate favored by many, issued a statement recently that ruled out serving at USDOT. Villaraigosa committed to serving out the remaining handful of months of his term as Mayor.
Design-build bill discussed in North Dakota Senate
A bill which would allow North Dakota to utilize a design-build process for design and construction of state highway projects was heard in the Senate Transportation Committee on Jan. 31. The theoretical advantage to design-build is that reduces the time frame to complete the project, while reducing costs as well. Rather than having a separate company to design, contract and construct a project, the middle-man contractor is cut out. In this method, the owner has a single contract with a single entity to provide the design and construction.
Experience has proven that a carefully managed combination of people, technology and collaborative ideology yields the greatest returns on today's projects.
Lane has successfully partnered in more than 50 Design-Build projects worth more than $2.8 billion. Learn More
