With Menasha's 'junk bond' status, loan pool is crucial

A state pool of money for local governments to borrow from has been hugely beneficial for Menasha, Wis., as it struggles to work its way out of financial distress, officials said. The Common Council voted unanimously to apply for a third loan from the state Trust Fund to cover general obligation debt for the failed Menasha Utilities steam plant. If approved by the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands, the $2.675 million loan at 5.25 percent interest represents the final short-term debt remaining from the nearly $17 million in steam plant debt backed by city taxpayers. Yosemite will install solar panels for largest grid-connected photovoltaic system in the national park system

Yosemite National Park, Calif., beginning in June Yosemite National Park will install a large-scale solar panel project at El Portal that will accommodate a 539-kilowatt photovoltaic generation system with $4.4 million received under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Once built, this will be the largest grid-connected photovoltaic system in the National Park System. Upon completion of the project, the park will double the electricity produced through renewable energy for the Pacific West Region of the National Park Service, which consists of 58 sites. More

dck-ecc pacific guam, LLC was one of seven contractors recently awarded a five-year, $4 billion joint total acquisition value indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity Design-Build Multiple Award Construction Contract. The contract is the largest ever awarded by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific, and will be used as the primary vehicle by which NAVFAC executes construction on Guam and other locations in support of the relocation of over 8,000 Marines from Okinawa to Guam. More

The Murray Morgan Bridge in Tacoma, Wash., is one of the few Waddell and Harrington vertical lift bridges operating in the western United States. The bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The bridge has a total length of 1,760 feet. Its three sections are: the city approach, a multi-span steel girder structure built in 1913; the port approach, a multi-span concrete girder structure built in 1957; and a three-span steel truss over the Thea Foss Waterway with a center vertical lift span. Skanska to construct rail tunnel in New York for 52 Million, approximately 380 Million

Skanska has been awarded a design/build contract for a new rail tunnel in New York, U.S. Skanska's share of the contract amount is  52 million, or approximately  380 million, which will be included in second-quarter order bookings. Skanska has a 20-percent share of the total contract amount, which is  258 million. The customer is New Jersey Transit. The contract relates to the Palisades Tunnel, which is part of the new Trans-Hudson Express Project (THE Project). With the construction of THE Project, NJ Transit will double its rail capacity between New Jersey and New York. More

Maritime Park construction can begin

The Community Maritime Park Associates board Pensacola, Fla., approved the long-awaited design-build contract with the park's development team. This removes the final hurdle, allowing major construction to begin on the park site. The contract allows the developer, Maritime Park Development Partners, to act as the park's general contractor. The CMPA unanimously approved the contract, which requires the project to be complete in about 19 months. More

RTD heard bids from two companies hoping to receive the contract to design, build and operate the "Eagle P3"portion of the FasTracks transit project. Eagle P3 includes proposed lines connecting DIA with Union Station, the Gold Line light rail connecting Arvada and Wheat Ridge to Denver as well as part of the Northwest Rail Corridor to Westminster. More
