The Delaware Department of Transportation announces that the last section of main span deck concrete was poured for the new Indian River Inlet Bridge recently. The final concrete deck pour links the north and south side of the bridge together over the inlet waterway. This event represents an historic milestone in the bridge's construction. More
SAIC awarded $11 million contract by HollyFrontier Corporation

Science Applications International Corporation announced recently it was awarded a prime contract by HollyFrontier Corporation to provide design-build services in support of the construction of a new Benzene Saturation Unit to meet Environmental Protection Agency regulatory requirements. The single-award contract has a value of approximately $11 million, and the new facility is expected to be in operation in June 2012. Work will be performed primarily in Woods Cross, Utah. More

Court rejects Pennsylvania Department of Transportation bidding policy

The Commonwealth Court has issued a permanent injunction barring Pennsylvania Department of Transportation from using a short-list process and a "best-value" assessment method in procuring builders for construction contracts. The decision follows a 2009 preliminary injunction Commonwealth Court issued against PennDOT on the matter, which the state Supreme Court affirmed. The court said PennDOT's best-value system violated Section 512 of the procurement code, which requires contracts go to the "lowest responsible bidder." More
DLR Group selected for Evans Army Community Hospital renovation in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Colorado architecture firm DLR Group was recently awarded design services for the Evans Army Community Hospital Alterations project located at Fort Carson, Colo. The renovations will take place within the surgical and behavioral health inpatient units at the hospital which serves U.S. Army soldiers and their families. DLR Group is teamed with their design-build partner Bryan Construction who will carry out the construction phase of the project. Both companies are local to the Colorado Springs area and have had a long history of successful projects completed at Fort Carson. More

The design-build team of McCarthy and TAYLOR recently completed construction of the $20 million Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Public Health, located on the north end of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Medical Center Campus in Los Angeles. The new building replaces the existing South Health Center, which was originally constructed in the 1950s. The first building to kick off the community redevelopment plan in the Willowbrook area, the new center provides an additional 12,000 square feet of space for public health programs and services. Parsons Project recognized by ASCE as 2010 Region 8 Major Project of the Year
Parsons is pleased to announce that the American Society of Civil Engineers has recognized the SR 532 Design-Build Corridor Improvement Project in Snohomish and Island Counties, Wash., as a 2010 Region 8 Major Project of the Year Honorable Mention. In February 2009, the Washington State Department of Transportation awarded a Parsons-led joint venture a design-build contract for this $54 million project, which included the addition of turn lanes, truck-climbing lanes, wet and dry utility improvements, roadway resurfacing and retaining walls, and the replacement and widening of the 60-year-old seismically deficient General Mark W. Clark Bridge (later renamed the Camano Gateway Bridge). More
Construction clock set to start on Flagler Bridge in Palm Beach, Fla.

With the design approval process winding down, Palm Beach, Floridians have three years of construction to look forward to as the Flagler Memorial Bridge replacement project shifts into gear. Providing the approval process stays on course, crews with PCL Civil Constructors are scheduled to begin mobilizing barges and cranes in mid-November, prior to drilling two test shafts, according to Mark Siegenthaler of New Millennium Engineering, a Florida Department of Transportation consultant. New bridges over Ahoskie Creek in North Carolina opens
Ahoskie, N.C., officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the reopening of the U.S. 13 bridges over Ahoskie Creek. The old bridges were replaces with two new bridges using the design-build method. The contractors, Sanford Contracting and Wetherill Engineering, finished the project ahead of schedule. The bridge project was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. More

Contractor chosen for new prison project in Southeastern Pennsylvania
