Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has announced that the state is moving forward with a new method to get highways built. In March, the state's General Assembly approved the governor's $4 billion transportation funding initiative. The plan includes borrowing about $3 billion during the next three years. Another $1 billion in available cash will be used to pay for up to 900 projects. More

Frito-Lay's new distribution facility in Oahu, Hawaii has earned the U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold certification. The 55,000 square foot design is Hawaii's first industrial "new construction" Gold site. LEED certification is awarded from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). North Carolina's Monroe Connector-Bypass $367.7 million design-build contract signed

The controversial Monroe Connector/Bypass project is one step closer to being reality. Today, North Carolina Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti and North Carolina Turnpike Authority Executive Director David Joyner signed the $367.7 million design-build contract for the 19.7-mile toll road. The contract has been awarded to Monroe Bypass Constructors, a joint venture of North Charleston, S.C.-based United Infrastructure Group, Monroe-based Boggs Paving, Lake City, Fla.-based Anderson Columbia Co. and lead design firm Baltimore-based Rummel, Klepper & Kahl.
